Here’s where “I think” we all might agree:

1) Presently…Colorado, just like any other state, has the right to determine which Presidential candidate’s name and the number of presidential candidates that are to be printed on the ballot in a Federal election in Colorado.

2) Party primary elections are a mishmash. Political parties are not part of the government. So who should have the authority to determine whose name is on a primary ballot? The government, State or Federal, or the political parties themselves?

3) A State does not have the right to disqualify a candidate in a Federal election, that means even if the state has the right to not put a presidential candidate’s name on the ballot in a Federal election, the state must make it possible for a voter to write in a candidate’s name and that vote must be counted.

All these people up in arms about the freedom to vote for who they want being stripped from them in Colorado is asinine. They are just as able to vote for who they want whether his name is on the ballot or not. They can write the name in of anyone they want to vote for.

    I mean, can't they...?

Apparently a Colorado Republican voter in the voting booth:

"Okay, lemme see here. I want to vote for... that one guy. What was his name again...? Terrible toupee... orange skin... Dang it, I thought his name was going to be on the ballot. I'm sure I'd remember it if I saw it. Well I'll just write his name in this space that they... Wait a minute! How can I write the guy's name in if I can't remember it?!?! Plus, I'm a stupid Republican who can read... but I am incapable of writing! Even if I knew his name, I couldn't write it in! I thought I was just going to be filling in bubbles! Now there's writing involved??? Oh my GOD! How could they deny me my freedom to vote for who I want to like this???"

Oh well. I guess they all can't be as smart as Alaskan Republicans...

Senator Lisa Murkowski wins Alaska write-in campaign

    November 17, 2010

ANCHORAGE (Reuters) - Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski Wednesday became the first U.S. senator in more than 50 years to win an election with a write-in campaign as she established an unassailable lead over conservative Tea Party movement favorite Joe Miller.

The result of the last undecided Senate race of the November 2 congressional elections does not alter the makeup of the chamber, where Republicans picked up six seats but the Democrats retained their majority.

    po,

"the court's ruling also bars the Colorado secretary of state from counting any write-in votes for Trump."

You are a ignert and self-righteous buffoon.

    isle,

Good post. Thanks for starting this. From 30,000 feet, here's my concern:

In the 1860 election, ten southern states did precisely what the Colorado Supreme Court is attempting.

There were no ballots distributed for Lincoln in ten of the Southern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

As tantalizing as Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment clearly is to po and her woke, white electric limousine lovin progressive Swampcult gang, as I understand the historical context, what the south did in 1860 gives meaning to the entire Fourteenth Amendment itself...not all of the meaning of course, but the 1860 abomination is a significant part of the back story.

IMO, the Fourteenth Amendment itself constitutes a swiping of states' prerogative in conducting its own elections, giving, in Section 5, ultimate authority to the United States Congress. Since the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868, states have limited freedom in controlling their elections.

Because of the Fourteenth Amendment, I'm pretty certain that, in this case, Colorado won't be permitted to do to Trump what those ten southern states were able to do to Lincoln in 1860.

In that way, the south lost the war.
